The picturesque market town of Tavistock, renowned for its food produce and market, is eight miles away. The Wharf in Tavistock is a popular music, film and arts venue and close by is a modern indoor swimming pool. The Tourist Information Centre is in the Market Square. The area is ideal for the Devon rambler being on the Tamar Valley Discovery Trail from Plymouth to Launceston. Bere Ferrers is about an hour's walk along the river and one can discover the river wildlife by hiring canoes through Canoe Tamar.

The Olde Plough Inn in Bere Ferrers is a popular local gastropub and for the gourmand, there is the renowned restaurant The Horn of Plenty at Gulworthy and the newly renovated Cornish Arms in Tavistock.

For children there is a Donkey Park just outside Gunnislake.

The 13th Century Buckland Abbey with its Old Barn and association with Sir Francis Drake, is a twenty minute drive away.



Cotehele is a Tudor house managed by the National Trust across the River Tamar in St Dominick, near Saltash in Cornwall. It is only a short drive away from the holiday cottage.


Cotehele Quay can also be seen on the Devon side of the river by following the public footpath along the river from the Shippon

The Garden House is within easy reach by car and lies between the villages of Crapstone and Buckland Monachorum. Keith Wiley's Wildside Nursery is a short distance away.
